The Democrats are interested in merit and hard work only insofar as those are obstacles to their power in need of destruction. I work in Silicon Valley, and the leaders there (especially at Google) prattle endlessly about the supposed benefits of diversity and inclusion, and how we're all to blame, blah blah blah. It's tedious and boring. But make no mistake, one of the common "problematic" concepts these con artists always come back to is that "meritocracy" is "code" for misogyny and white supremacy. Now keep in mind, Silicon Valley is home to multitudes of Asian immigrants. In my company, a majority of employees are immigrants from China and India, even. Yet, like Nikole Hannah Jones did on Twitter, these Asian immigrants are lumped in with whites - "white adjacent," like the wokescenti called Andrew Yang and (maybe?) Tulsi Gabbard during the primary.

The success of Asians (and Jews) in America - groups even more successful than whites - represents a grave threat to the the Democratic Party narrative that can't imagine a world beyond civil rights struggle, and so has invented new ways to see bigotry in the most innocent, benign or even virtuous and beneficial situations. The "you didn't build that" philosophy has been fully reified throughout their party. I see it all the time in the Valley. (Of course, most founders feel differently about their own startups, just as long as they acknowledge that everyone *else* has not earned their jobs and status through hard work, sacrifice and, as your father put it, "the dignity of labor.")

I find all of it tedious and ludicrous. I have made up my mind to never consider Democrats until they can actually believe in the value of hard work again. The Democrats to me seem like people with wealth, status and breeding who are jealous of anyone "uppity" entering into their upper echelon ranks without an invitation. Kamala Harris herself provides a glimpse into that future, where people get ahead only by sacrificing their dignity to the upper class along the way, whether by serving as a Willie Brown's mistress or teaming up with a man she accused mere months ago of being a racist and probable rapist.

For people in the middle of the political spectrum, there is no place to go. I think that at this point, and for as long as Trump is "active", himself or his populist style, Asians and other minorities will remain mostly in the Democratic party. Not because it is so great, just a little less anti-democratic. More Democrats are centrists than Republicans, I think. We need a charismatic, smart centrists as a candidate in either party, to show the rest that the center is where elections are won, and where the country is at its best.

Just as the Democrat party has abandoned Jews for a much larger and wealthier entity, they have now abandoned Asians because they, like Jews, destroy the victimization narrative on which the Democrat party's power is dependent. I don't think too many Asians will identify publicly with the GOP anytime soon, but in the ballot booth more and more will vote to protect their children from a (white, affluent, male-run) Democratic party that wants to systematically reduce Asian children's attendance at the best high schools and universities nationwide. Orange man is bad, but at least he fought Yale and Harvard for trying to shaft your kids.

Dems went for a uniparty majority in VA. The policies you now see are the result of uniparty group think. If you ban the other side from participation in politics and education you will get more of this. Wake up.

PS: little editorials won’t fix this. Voting will fix this.

On the face of it sound arguments OR is it because can't stomach an Indian Origin candidate. I find it absurd to connect Kamala Harris's nomination to VP to this. Instead it should have focussed on general democratic approach to meritocracy rather than inject Kamala into this discussion, and that is what makes this suspect - whether it is motivated by the democratic assault on meritocracy or because the writer hates Kamala Harris' Indian-Hindu background.

An impassioned write-up where the Personal lights up and illuminates the spreading darkness of a new wave of Woke Politics. Values of hard work and the dignity of labour as well as the resounding pride of being an American shines through. It is citizens like these, America, who will mount that eternal vigil demanded by your Founding Fathers to defend those Inalienable Rights to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.
